Highly efficient software for migrating old files to second tier storage

Unlike other products it doesn’t try to be a pseudo-document management system and it doesn't require the deployment of any agents to your workstations or file servers. It only utilises functionality that is already included natively in the Windows OS.

Enables the migration of old files from any UNC path to any UNC path using a range of criteria including file age, size and type. The target can be a VM, NAS device, CIFS share, iSCSI volume or even cloud storage on Amazon AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. NTFS flat files and folders are used from start to finish, at no point are any files (or even file metadata) stored in a database or proprietary storage mechanism. This is crucial as it provides Archiver.FS with massive scalability and makes it incredibly efficient. The largest file system currently handled by Archiver.FS stands at 3.4 PetaBytes in size, and that is done using a single Datacenter edition install on a small VM with just 4 vCPUs and 6GB of RAM.

'Direct File Access' is used to provide users instant access to archived files, slashing the time it takes for users to access their files. When a user clicks on a link that was left behind in place of a file all the IO goes straight from the user directly to the archived file. There are no agents of other software components in the way meaning users don't have to sit around waiting for a file to be returned to the live file system before they can access it. Any files that need to be returned back to the live file system are returned by the daily maintenance job that runs out of hours. All of the information regarding where a file has been migrated from and too is maintained in the file system itself through the clever use of directory structures and file properties.

There are several types of stubs to choose from which can be used to replace files when they are migrated, including completely seamless links that behave exactly like the origional file. In addition both folder and file level shortcuts that are more like traditional Windows shortcuts can be used, which offer the advantage of increased compatability and can even be accessed by Apple Macs using an add-in like 'Win Shortcutter'.

Installation is supported on all versions of Windows from 2003 Server on, including Windows Storage Server and Server 2016. All that is required is the .Net Framework 4.0 and SQL Express 2008 R2 or later for the small configuration and job scheduling database.

Just like your users Archiver.FS works at the file level and it integrates seamlessly with Windows File and Folder compression, Windows Server de-duplication, Microsoft Search Server, DFS (Distributed File System) as well as many vendor specific technologies like SAN based replication and Software Defined Storage. It can do this because it doesn't rely on file system drivers or other low level components. This is deliberate, and it means that ensures maximum compatability with any underlying technologies.

Archiver.FS started life in 2002 as Archive Manager and has evolved into an established solution with a broad customer base. It is in use with a wide range of organisations from multi-billion dollar global companies to military contractors, law enforcement departments, government institutions, universities and everything in between in over 40 countries.

Each file and folders permissions and attributes are 100% preserved at all times thanks to the use of NTFS for archived file storage. There is no loss of security, information or context unlike solutions that try to store either file or file metadata in a database or proprietry storage mechanism.

Unique daily Maintenance Job that returns recently used files back to the live file system, exactly replicates file and folder permissions from the live system to the second line storage and much more!

Full unicode support for most of the file system character sets in the world including English, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and many more (including file systems with multiple character sets!) 

Perpetual and subscription licences are available. Subscription licences are available for as little as $1200 for 2 TB of file processing, and that is for each TB migrated from the live file system to second line storage. We don't charge based on the ammount of old data that is sat idle in second line storage, just the action of migrating the files to it. After all it is your storage, why should you pay year on year just to have files sat on it?
